Chapter 4 – Wings of Morning

Even before the crowd could cheer, the second bird lifted its wings in a tremendous spread, nearly filling half the aviary. They flapped but once, as it left the landing in another graceful spring. Speed and momentum were gained more rapidly, and in only seconds it, too, soared free.
Ell did nothing to direct his mount, just rode with the lift and let it climb on its own. The great fandor steadily rose, catching the updraft along the valley and the crystal cliffs, a permanent thermal that was always there. This was the main reason for the location of that aviary.
The other birds, still in their stalls, rustled about, also stretching their wings as if to psychically assist their free-flying mates. Their compassionate keeper, the red woman, soothed them assuring, “Its okay, my dears. It’s okay. You will all get a chance… very soon, very soon.”
Abreast now, the massive two circled back in unison and in perfect formation, back over the aviary for the first leg of a long spiral that would take them aloft thousands of meters. Upturned faces and waving hands from the red people could be seen just briefly before the great birds banked into the next turn and rose rapidly. The riders waved back, but they doubted that anyone could notice clearly by then, though the immense fandors, themselves, would be seen for several minutes yet as they continued gaining height.

Ell sat low in the boat, looking over the gunnel, his chin just clearing. As he peered down into the water, with the rays penetrating, he saw huge creatures that reflected light deep into the clear black water. He shuddered and hunkered down lower in the boat. He felt familiar around rocks, but not the water with huge beings swimming about and giving off lights.
He was jerked out of his revere when young Isaac turned towards him and Anklad shouted, “This invasion could ruin the Prince’s landing.” But his words were lost on the wind. Only the captain heard enough to piece together their plight. Thus, he steadily held the stern towards Isaac’s direction.
Chapter 10 – Overlook

From a distance they could see that all the orbs were on end and, to their astonishment, were open exposing their insides which were laden with packages the other beings were unloading. Most amazing of all was that upon closer examination, the upright orbs looked like giant beings with their coats open. Looking at the tops, features resembling a face could be made out by those with the sharpest long-range vision. Not knowing exactly what they were viewing, they were as confused as the Biblical Ezekiel explaining the “Wheel within a wheel” that he saw spinning in the sky, then landing right in front of him.
As the being, who appeared to be the leader of the group approached, he fairly glowed. His radiant smile was gracious and comforting.
