ePublishing™ FAQs
FAQs Menu

1- Do you accept credit cards?

Pay by PayPal's Web Site which accepts international and US credit cards like Visa and Master Card (recipient rce@rcetronics.com). RCE also accepts Money Orders, Cashiers Checks or personal checks (we wait for it to clear before shipping). We do not accept credit cards directly as payment except through PayPal.

2- Are Epublished Pictures in Color or Black and White?

RCE's high resolution color scans look as if you were viewing the original pages! With age and use, the pages become dog eared, noted, stained and wrinkled. The nuance of the pages is remarkably enjoyable to view.

3- Epublishing™ Titles

We are constantly adding more titles for distribution. Any listing put on this CD would soon be outdated. For the latest current listings go to our software web page at http://www.rcetronics.com/software.

4- Owner Manual?

The user, operator, owner’s manual is a reference on how the particular piece of equipment is operated. It usually has equipment specifications, but rarely has a parts list or any service information. We offer mainly service manuals. The description of the specific manual offered will depict if it is a parts, service or owner's manual.

5- Can I download media?

RCE is currently working on implementing this feature. The prices will be dramatically lower than for CD media.    Keep checking our on line store. When we enable this feature, it will be offered and advertised there first.

6- Could a service manual be used as a substitute for an owner’s manual?

Not always. Service manuals have technical information are generally for use by technicians who are already familiar with the specific piece of equipment. Sometimes useful information is offered about the operation of the unit, but generally service manuals are not directed towards equipment use or application and are of very little use to an owner.

7- I have purchased copies before that were barely legible. Why should I buy from RCE?

Having tried to read and use various bad manuals and CD manuals and their instructions, I abhore the frustration. We will not offer anything that is not up to RC Electronics' standards. Read or download our on line Quality Assurance Manual at http:\\www.rcetronics.com\service.

1)                  Almost everybody is scanning eAlbums through Adobe Acrobat Reader which we found to be insufficient for quality images. That program is best for viewing and assembling documents, not high quality images. We designed and wrote our own program with the desired features for ease of use. Many Epublishing suppliers feel that file size is more important that image quality which we feel is critical for a quality product that we can be proud of.

2)                 The orginal manual's quality vary widely. Some use thin paper that allows the image on the other side to 'bleed' through. By adjusting the scanner's resolution and image size, the quality of the resultant image is the best we can make it.  Older manuals have charm and character using this method, instead of being blurry or blotchy.

3)                 Practically every image and page we scanned needed to be adjusted for best viewing. More than 5 minutes worth of digital, brightness, contrast, size and poisiton adjustments were made on some pages before we were satisfied with the resultant image. That is on just one page!

4)                 The main factor in the resultant quality of a particular scan is the quality of the original source. Many manufacturers did not print manuals with major attention towards the detail required for quality duplication. Some manuals are beautiful works of art, while others are funcitonally adequate.

5)                 We purchased our manuals generally from the manufacturer, other service shops or technicians. We only scan original manuals or photocopies if good enough quality and that is all that is available). Some manufacturers now only supply their manuals on CD.

6)                 Technicians would use their manuals often, sometimes daily. To find a manual, for a popular model that is 30 years old and never been used is very, very rare.  Most have been open, closed and used thousands of times. We digitally touched up some pages that were damaged in some way, to give them a clean appearance. If the stains or notes are not objectionable, we leave them in. All the information presente will be completely legible. Its almost like having the manual physically in your hands instead of on your screen.

7)                 Most all scans are 24-bit color for maximum resolution. They are then compressed to keep the file size down and loading speed up with a very unlossy algorithm that shows no appreciable degredation in image quality. Some of the scans from Hewlett Packard and Tektronix are from microfiche.

8)                 Sometimes I see particular scans from before and think that I could surely make them better. I re-scaned them. Some were a little better and most are not.

6- System Requirements.

This Ebook was designed to be easy to use, fast and use minimal hardware resources. The presentation program is written in Java and has its roots in a Foxpro database slide show presentation.
  • Hardware:
Pentium or higher IBM® compatible PC
    64MB of RAM (128MB recommended)
    CD ROM reader
High Color VGA Video and VGA monitor capable of high color
  • Hard Drive:
CD version does not install anything not even a temporary file to your hard drive and only requires temporary RAM in your computer to run. If the 'EXE' program is stored on the system's hard drive, the needed size is dependent on the specific Ebook. Does not install anything to your hard drive except the application and requires only RAM overhead from your computer to run.
  • Platforms:
This program runs under Windows® 95, 98, 2000, and XP which uses NT technology. The screen setting should be set to High Color, or else the pages will look grainy.
  • Speed:
The faster the CPU and CD ROM reader speed, the faster the images appear on your screen. And of course the more RAM you have, the faster the imaging process will be.
